Sustainability - not greenwashing

Seray was born to be a sustainable company. When we think about the right way to run a company sustainably, it comes in two parts; the environment + ethics.

  • TENCEL MODAL is compostable

  • 99% of water used is recyclable

  • Uses 1/3 of the water needed to make rayon

The Environment

Founded in Vancouver B.C, we are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful places in Canada. We want to keep it that way.

Seray is made out of one of the most sustainable fibres that exist; TENCEL™ Modal.

TENCEL™ Modal is a fabric designed specifically to reduce environmental impact. The fibre is made out of renewable raw beechwood and it is sourced from sustainable forests in Austria and neighbouring countries.

The fibre is produced in a CO2 neutral environment and up to 95% of the TENCEL™ Modal production materials are recycled as a result of the innovative process.

The fibre is also certified as biodegradable and compostable. Wearing Seray means you are not only enjoying the benefits of a sustainably-derived fibre, you are also influencing a better tomorrow too.

Why is this fabric good for you?

TENCEL™ Modal is not only one of the softest fibres, it is also one of the most breathable. Modal is up to 50 percent more absorbent than cotton, so clothes never feel sweaty and sticky. This means cool nights and peace of mind sleeping commando - the way we all like it.

Ethics

Ok - so the fabric is extremely sustainable - but what about the people who actually make the sets?

Take a peek at the clothing you are wearing right now - is it from a country that produces sustainable materials, and uses ethical labour practices? Most textiles fall short on one of the two categories.

Seray’s production for the mocha + ivory set is based out of Campo, Portugal. Portugal is a world leader in transparent and responsible labour practices. The country is regarded as a place where respect for human rights is an integral part of the industry. Shockingly, child labour and dire working conditions still exist today, and Seray ensures that manufacturers are treated properly through a variety of ways.

The manufacturing facility is audited and regulated by Li & Fung standards.

Factories are visited and inspected regularly by Li & Fung representatives to ensure that the factory meets all ethical working conditions and fair labour initiatives. Below are some the labour practices that are met & inspected:

  • Employees are entitled to 4 weeks of vacation per year

  • employees are eligible for Health insurance

  • Employees have child and parent related benefits

  • Employees have safe & hygienic working conditions
